About Me I am a breeder and exhibitor of American Singer canaries. Although I currently breed Waterslager and Hartz canaries as well, American Singers are my passion. Seven years ago I purchased a trio of birds from American Singer judge Mike Grohman of Saginaw, Michigan and became hopelessly addicted to the breed. I breed between 50 and 75 birds each year and have breeding stock from some of the top breeders in the United States. For those who care about such things, my list of show wins can be found at the bottom of this page. I participate in every American Singer section and specialty show in the Midwest each year - currently there are seven annual shows. In 2000, I joined the DRAGON club, the Michigan-based chapter of the national American Singers Club, Inc. (ASC) and became very active in the American Singer fancy. I have served the DRAGON club as President, Librarian, Newsletter Editor, Website Editor, Show Catalog Editor, Show Secretary, and in many more untitled capacities. I also serve ASC Chapter 6 - Chicago area as Newsletter Editor and Website Editor. I serve as Show Secretary at American Singer shows throughout the Midwest. Additionally, I am a frequent contributor to the newsletter of the national American Singers Club and have had articles published in a variety of print and electronic newsletters and magazines. I was fortunate early on to come under the tutelage of some of the "greats" of the American Singer fancy and I am blessed to be able to consider them personal friends. Their instruction and support has meant everything to me. I value the many hours I have spent in their presence and the innumerable pieces of advice they have provided.
Am I Some Kind of Canary Expert? No - and frankly, I don't know anyone who is! I have a strong academic background - I hold a degree in Clinical & Community Psychology (and have a few degrees in other subjects as well) - and I am well versed in conducting research. One well-respected method of research is a review of literature. I can assure you that in the past seven years I have read and taken notes on a very large volume of canary-related literature. Additionally, I have personal experience and what I have learned from my fellow breeders to rely on. I can state without reservation that I know a fair bit about canaries in general and American Singer canaries specifically. I understand that people prefer to rely on the advice of "experts", but the problem with canaries is that many of the experts are self-named and their personal reputations are unknowable unless you are active in the fancy. I can assure you that decades of experience in breeding and showing canaries does NOT make one knowledgeable if one does not apply oneself to learning. And even folks who know a great deal can STOP learning new things. As with all things in life, continual learning is the key to success!

I show to support the American Singer fancy - I am not particularly concerned with how many trophies I walk away with at each show. However, for those who care about such things here is a list of wins. All shows had 151+ American Singer entries. 2008
